Rumor: 3G iPhone in January, 2008?

High speed wireless internet access for the iPhone in January, 2008? Apple Insider is reporting the rumor.
If this is true, how will it affect initial sales? For instance, if you have to sign up for a 2 year agreement, switch carriers, pay $500-$600, buy new peripherals, then have the shiny new iPhone be updated in six months??? I'd be upset unless there was clearly a free or cheap upgrade. It's probably not a very good idea to get early adopters upset by doing such a quick update. Why wouldn't they just wait to announce the phone that most people want anyway?

Apple, Cisco settle iPhone trademark lawsuit - CNET News.com

The agreement allows Apple and Cisco to use the iPhone brand on their own products.

I wonder if anyone will be confused between the two products. My prediction is that there will be dozens if not hundreds of people buying "iPhones" over at eBay thinking they got a "really great deal" on the new iPhone.

WSJ: Jobs plays hardball

Excellent article in the Wall Street Journal Online giving some information about the history of the iPhone and Cingular/Verizon. Since it's the WSJ, it's very business oriented but still good. There is a great chart comparing sizes, memory, prices for several competitors. Also, check out the 2 minute video giving a good overview of the iPhone and competitors.
