$400M of free advertising

Four Hundred Millon Dollars worth of free advertising by announcing a product, that everyone wanted initially, six months prior to releasing the product. I have to say that I did start this blog very close to the announcement. This article is very interesting and shows some insight to being a "rockstar" company.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs' bet paid off like a gushing Vegas jackpot. The avalanche of headlines and TV news stories about the iPhone - which hits the market in June - already have generated $400 million in free publicity, says Harvard Business School professor David Yoffie. "No other company has ever received that kind of attention for a product launch," Yoffie says. "It's unprecedented."

I'm not sure I agree with the "no other company..." line. I remember people buying Windows 95 at CompUSA because they saw it on TV but did NOT YET have a computer!!! The thought they would need it. I wonder how many of these people tried to put the cd-rom in the toaster?
