Simple and cheap iPhone for your Grandma

What if iPhone was a simple iPod with a simple telephone functionality? Just these two functions and nothing more, but implemented real well? Now, that Apple have proved to the world at large that it can make a revolutionary phone, it may just go and build simple and cheap phone/iPod that my Grandma will understand. (New Apple patent)

iPhone - Great keyboard punctuation shortcut from David Pogue

David Pogue gives us a great tip on how to quickly add numbers or punctuation with only one click, rather that the usual three. (i.e. Press the 123 button, press the punctuation/number, press the ABC button to get back.)

Help Build the Ultimate iPhone Feature Request List; Continuously Updated

We invite you to add your ideas in the comments, and we ’ll add the ones we think are the best to the master list. (And if anything we bring up here actually is already possible in the iPhone, please let us know. We don’t claim to be iPhone experts yet). The list will be updated periodically as we continue to test the iPhone.

What a great list that people come up with. Many seem very reasonable and should be in a future release of the iPhone software... BTW: How will the software be updated? Automatically? Get an email notice to update?

Cases, Cases, Cases....

Apple iPhone cases from $34 to $15. What surprises me is that there are only 24 on the Apple iPhone Store site. In fact, there are only about 41 products there. I thought there would be thousands and thousands of accessories available.

First report of an iPhone crash

This was written about on msnbc but the JOEyGADGET site has more detail. Joe shows what he went through, how he tried to fix the phone, check out the iPhone Support FAQ and finally got a replacement at the Apple Store. An issue that he saw prior to his problem was the the iPhone felt very hot to the touch since he got it. This could be a big problem if it's with the battery since it is not user-replacable.

Ten Reasons Why You Shouldn't Buy an iPhone

A good summary that you should think about before getting your own iPhone. The expense, AT&T and one that I didn't think of, the $175 termination fee if you decide to break the commitment with AT&T. I wonder if the iPhone 2.0 will be out on another provider?

Apple Developer Connection: Web Development for iPhone

The following guidelines will help you prepare web content and design a website or web-based application for iPhone. If you are a seasoned web developer, there are probably just a few refinements you can make to ensure that your site looks great and works best on iPhone.Very strange but the site that tells you how to develop for the iPhone, doesn't render properly on my IE 7.0 but looks fine in Firefox.

The important page is here. A good overview of what you need to do to your site to optimize your site for the iPhone. I'll be looking it over today and make some modifications you my iphoneapps.mobi site to test it out. Oh yeah, don't forget to download Safari 3.0 in order to test properly.

Introducing Snap Shots from Snap.com

I just installed a nice little tool on this site called Snap Shots that enhances links with visual previews of the destination site, interactive excerpts of Wikipedia articles, MySpace profiles, IMDb profiles and Amazon products, display inline videos, RSS, MP3s, photos, stock charts and more.

Sometimes Snap Shots bring you the information you need, without your having to leave the site, while other times it lets you "look ahead," before deciding if you want to follow a link or not.

Should you decide this is not for you, just click the Options icon in the upper right corner of the Snap Shot and opt-out.

Glitches? Not really. 2 out of 11 people polled.

Reuters is stating that there may be glitches with the iPhone. I don't think so. It's really with iTunes and the inability to activate the phone. I already blogged with the method to install iTunes 7.3 on Vista. Maybe this is really the culprit and not really any problem with the iPhone, except people absolutely loving theirs. As stated in the article:

"It's not like it's a computer, it's not like it's a phone, it's like a living sculpture in my hands," said Dale Larson, a mobile business consultant in San Francisco.

If you're having problems installing iTunes on Vista, check out this link:

Vista, iTunes 7.3 and VBScript...
